Sitting Bull (c. 1831–1890) was a prominent Lakota Sioux leader and spiritual figure. He became renowned for his role in resisting U.S. government efforts to seize Native American lands. Sitting Bull led his people during the Great Sioux War and famously guided a coalition of tribes to victory at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, where General Custer's forces were decisively defeated. After the battle, he fled to Canada but eventually surrendered in 1881. Sitting Bull later performed in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show but continued to advocate for Native American rights. He was killed in 1890 during an attempt by U.S. authorities to arrest him in connection with the Ghost Dance movement. Sitting Bull is remembered as a symbol of resistance and resilience in Native American history.
